“Let’s do it the local way”, exclaimed our uncommon illustrator, Kejal when she was acquainted with #36daysoftype on Instagram and was completely blown away by the amount of awesome works. Seeing such inspirational works coming out through it, seeing so many artists pouring out their creativity to the world striked her in such an inspirational way that she couldn’t resist but pour all her love out for her city through her art of illustration.
“I always wanted to do something that highlighted my city and all its quirks and all that is local; and when local goes global it becomes fun!” – Kejal
Let’s take a moment to reminisce our love for that one city which we proudly calls “My City”, the city we know the most, the city no matter where we go, we always come back to, where our heart resides and so is love of our girl for her city that has taken an artistic amalgamation of words and pictures which she has named “Puneri Shivya”.
So What is Puneri Shivya ?
Puneri is of pune and Shivya literally means offensive words (gaalis), words we puneri peeps use in everyday conversations where every alphabet has given a shivya (puneri slangs or puneri shivya) which is later illustrated to add fun. The process involved drawing the sketch, inking, converting to a digital illustration and then compiling the text and illustration together.
So when art meets fun Puneri Shivya happens.Voila!!
So it’s time to give your eager mind a retreat of fun and art altogether and relearn alphabets the puneri way.
Aamchi maharashtra paltan let’s get rolling.
Alphabet A – Asu-de (अ – असू दे)
Asu-de – A word used by us when our friends irritate us or are being obnoxious. It literally means let it be/ leave it.
And finally we have one word to chuck away all those stupid blether of our annoying friends.
”Place this one word in your head now”, said the brain straight away.
Alphabet B – Bindok ( ब – बिनडोक )
Bindok – A word which translates to bin – without and dok – head/brain. Quite literally means without using your brain/head.
So how many bindok you have in our life? (Finally remembering all of them in a row)
Alphabet C – Chhapri ( छ – छपरी )
Chhapri – A word for your friends that act cheap!
So basically this is the word that best complement our friends. Undoubtedly!

Dukkar – Marathi word for pig. Used when your pal is acting like a pig.
And it’s hard to find when they don’t act like one.
Alphabet E – Ek(ch) number ( एकचं नंबर )
Ek(ch) number – We use this term for something awesome! Don’t forget to stress on ‘ek’ like the locals say. It’s more like awesommmme…

Fuktya – This one is for those freeloaders friends. A person who wants everything for free.
And if we start counting all fuktya in our life it surely will be a never ending list.
Alphabet G – Gandlay ( ग – गंडलंय )
Gandlay – When something is wrong we use this word to make the severity known! The word is used to describe mess.
No no you are not dreaming,we actually have such a cool marathi word to make our mess sound cool, for a moment at least.
Alphabet H – Halkat ( ह – हलकट )

Itkaa – A prefix used to amplify a word in general. To stress or exaggerate and prove a point!
For ex. Itkaa raag/ itkaa nalayak means so angry/ such an asshole resp.

Alphabet Q – NO WORD.
We “Quit” on this letter after spending so much time on this and ending up with a backlog. We spent so much time on find something from this letter and ended up with nothing. In marathi there ain’t a letter for Q so we were stumped at this for real. 🙁

Rhada – It means to create ruckus, however in a good fun way. Almost like a party.
