Love Letters on Mothers’ Day – Direct Dil Se

‘Mothers are the people who love us for no good reason.’

Just by virtue of being their children, we are blessed with an unending supply of unconditional love from mothers. The spirit of motherhood is also not limited to relations of blood- connections are made by bonds of love that are timeless and endless.

“The Uncommon Box celebrates the values of these bonds that define the human existence. On the occasion of Mothers’ Day this year, we decided to invite everyone to celebrate the day in an ‘uncommon’ manner and write a love letter to the one they look up to as Mother, expressing their innermost feelings.”

And it has been a heart-warming experience in The Uncommon Box workstation.  Letter after letter, has expressed in the sincerest form the love that celebrates this bond.

Come, hold our hand, as we take you on this wonderful journey.

The first letter to arrive in our inbox was this little gem from Lakshmi Pillai who had some lovely words for her mother.

My dearest Mom,

I love you! Thanks for everything you have given me. You will never know how much I love you. You are the one person on this whole earth who has understood me always, Thanks for being always there when I needed you and especially when I was taking all my important decisions.

“YOU ARE THE PERFECT BLEND OF A MOTHER AND A FRIEND”.

Thank you for all the things you have done for me so far. I may not understand you on some things but I know that you’re only doing what you know is right for me. I shall love you always.

Once again I love you very much and Happy Mothers’ Day!

P.S- ‘Teri meri jamti nai par tere bina meri chalti nai!’

With love,

Lakshmi.

One of the first words a baby utters is ‘Ma’- and this bond continues for a lifetime. Whether we call her Ma, Mummy or Ammi, – it matters little. Shereen Mir pens a touching note to her Ammi Jaan and yes, we can all relate to these feelings.

My mother, my ammi jaan (as I address her) is surely one of the strongest women I have ever come across.

She has always managed to do the household chores by herself; and to surprise me more, she completes it all with absolute perfection! She is also able to do minor repairs of devices that may require a mature hand; besides taking over some gardening, plumbing, and electrician jobs. What an all-rounder!

I sometimes wonder how things will be when I will be in her position… And it doesn’t even take a minute for me to realize that I am nowhere near her. Nowhere. And I am not ashamed to admit this, for she deserves to be appreciated for her single-minded devotion, her accuracy, her multi-tasking, her everything.

“A Mother is Someone who can take the place of all others, but whose place no one can take.”

There have surely been days when things have demanded more than physical strength from her. To my amazement and equal pride, she has always stood the tests of time. Her level of mental strength is so high. The Almighty has blessed her with so much of patience, so much of adaptability, so much of affection and care. Spending just some time with her, resting my head on her lap and a few minutes under the shade of her caressing, gives my peace… my soul feels light. Infinite thanks to Him, for blessing me with her! =”)

She has always supported me, been my pillar of strength and motivation. I can never, never thank her enough. Words may seem an underestimation, but my heart knows how much I adore her, admire her, love her, care for her, get worried for her, pray for her, and need her. Now and always.

There is still so much more to say, but for now I’d rather leave with the thought that this post will surely remind me of my Ammi Jaan whenever I read this, wherever I be. And every such time, my respect and love for her will only increase, my hands will be raised only in prayers for her welfare.

At the moment, she is lying next to me on bed… fast asleep. With every glance at her, I can only say- I can’t imagine my life without her.

 My Mother, My Ammi Jaan,

I Love You So Much.

Shereen

A new mommy herself, Jessica Sahay has listed her reasons for saying sorry and thank you to her mother! But Mothers need our love and warmth as much as they give us- and the older we grow, we realize their value in our lives.

Dear Mamma

I am sorry. For fighting with you and not listening to you.

I am sorry. For not eating my vegetables.

I am sorry. For not doing my homework on time.

I am sorry. For all the late nights I kept you up when I was out partying with friends.

I am sorry. For not loving you as much as you love me.

Thank you. For being stubborn enough to fight with me for what is right.

Thank you. For forcing me to eat my vegetables.

Thank you. For using all the weapons in your arsenal to make me do my homework on time and force me to study in school to be a good student.

Thank you. For letting me go to experience and enjoy life with my friends as an adult but also keeping a watchful eye over me.

Thank you. For not giving up on me and loving me even when I didn’t deserve it.

Now I am a mother and now I know why you did what you did or said what you said. This mother’s day is truly special because now I understand what it means to be a mother.”

I love you Mamma and if I am half as good as a mother as you are, I know I would succeed.

 Happy Mamma’s Day!

Love,

Your undeserving daughter.

Jessica.

Juhi Bhattacharya believes in the saying that ‘God cannot be everywhere so He has created Mothers.’ Her little note expresses her gratitude at the way her mother has nurtured her into a warm and responsible adult.

Dear Maa,

I don’t know how to start and thank you for the enormous effort you have taken to nurture me. It is well said by someone that “God cannot be everywhere so He has created Mothers “. This is absolutely true in my case.

“My whole world lies around you. Today whatever I am or whoever I am this is just because of you Maa. Without you I am nothing.”

You have always shown me the right path of my life.

Many a time, I have argued with you but you never shouted at me. You have always pacified me with your love and affection. You are the epitome of patience. I have always tried to imbibe the patience level you have but failed many times.

I would just like to say that I am very lucky to have you as my mother. Love you Maa- May you live many more long years.

Your loving daughter,

Juhi.

It is true that we do not need a special day to convey our feelings to our loved ones. But the truth also lies in the fact that we need to remind ourselves of these special people and not take them for granted. So here we are at The Uncommon Box providing the perfect platform to say what you wanted to and could not for the longest time!

“Wishing your mother and all the mothers of the world, beyond barriers of nationality and gender,

A Happy Mothers’ Day!”
