What had been trending all these while? Aye, Baby let me see it Jalebi baby…I just wanna eat it Jalebi baby (you read it with the tune!). The composition by Indian Canadian Singer, Tesher, became all the rage on Tik Tok & Instagram Reels. In 2020, it made a record with more than 3.1 million creations on social media apps. Recently, Tesher launches ‘Jalebi Baby’ music video with Jason Derulo. And Zomato made an appearance in the same! To all those among us who skipped the Zomato Ads, got the best surprise from the largest food delivery firm.
Let’s start from the start
Tesher released his second single Jalebi Baby at the end of 2020. In the song, he raps in both English and Punjabi. It began to chart in a slew of countries including Turkey, Egypt, and Algeria. It made it to the top trend on social media apps like Shazam, Instagram Reels, and TikTok. Then the song made its way into Europe.
Once the track hit Germany, record labels started calling.
“If a record can work there (in Germany), it can work everywhere,” said Tesher. “The world was taking notice.”
In May, Tesher announced the collaboration with Delauro. He said his fans will soon listen to Hindi and Punjabi lyrics on Top 40 radio all over the world!
Tesher’s & Jason Derulo’s Jalebi Baby music video will make you do bhangra on the beats!
The new version of the song with Derulo’s vocals launched in May. They shot the video with the profound director, Gil Green, better known as a star in his own right! He has worked with Derulo on many videos and he did the best. The music video is beautiful & intricate.
Choreographed by Derulo’s long-time choreographer, Jeremy Kenyel & Tesher’s choreographer, Divya Jethwani, has multiple dance scenes. The video brings up the best combination of Bollywood Hollywood Duo. It is the first time in history that a major American artist has performed a Bhangra on screen! Jason Derulo caught us with his charm and moves for sure. In one of the interviews, Derulo said he collaborated with Tesher on the song because he has always looked for “something from left field.”
We can only say, he picked the very right from the left field!
Despacito moment for Zomato in Jalebi Baby
In one of the sequences in the video, we can see Tesher drops a plate of jalebis that he was about to serve. Since he was running out of time, he hurriedly orders some more from Zomato. The delivery man places the signature Zomato’s red box on the table and then it is served!
In mere seconds Zomato showed its presence and sent its customers their message, “anytime, every time!”
Zomato shared the same on YouTube & Instagram right before Zomato IPO going live. Must say, one of the Best Global Marketing Campaigns done!
