Know Why Haseen Dillruba Didn’t Get ‘Haseen’ Ratings!

Are you wondering Why Haseen Dillruba Didn’t Get ‘Haseen’ Ratings? We’ve got the answers!

But please note, this article is not where you will get to know the plot or clues to understand the ending. Welcome to the honest analysis!

Let’s start!

Haseen Dillruba is a movie about a mismatched couple, Rani & Rishabh falling in love in the most strange way possible! The match made in heaven (we will consider this at least!) brings the two people poles apart together. Without knowing much about one another they marry and try their best to consummate their marriage. (Arranged marriage Alert!) But there is a third wheel who turns this lovely couple’s not-so-happening life upside down. The movie has a very interesting plot with twists and turns that will keep you stuck with an urge, “oh Teri!! Aage kya hoga?” A perfect combination of passion, crazy love, lust, laughter, anger, tears (eh..not sure), a lot of gasps (of every kind!) in short, the movie is “bilkul masala maar ke”.

This seems a very normal, typical Bollywood story then why critics are so hard on Haseen Dillruba, a dark love-thriller movie with a brilliant cast and marvelous acting? Why Haseen Dillruba didn’t get ‘Haseen’ ratings?

The reason is, the movie gives a wonderful chance to taste the bitterness of our society – again, not in a justified manner. The question is, is it not the responsibility of the movie eternity to showcase a better side of any community? There has to be a moral right? Because if not, the audience would savor upon the negatives served, thinking, this way is the only the right way. (as it happened with the movie Kabir Singh – bepanaah Ishq bhale hi toxic Sahi…!)

Haseen Dillruba’s storyline is cringe-worthy because of these many reasons:

1. Unfavourable Horoscope. (Ladki ki Kundli mein dosh hai) Who would marry her now…oh no!

2. Ladki ki Umar badhti ja rahi hai (apparently she would be not suitable for an arranged marriage or marriage even!)

3. If you are a girl with above two points in your purse then ‘Woman’ you don’t have a choice. Jo mil raha usi se shaadi kar lo!

4. Sundar, Sushil bahu should take over the kitchen for sure.

5. You being a girl should not have any expectation or desire for sex. If you do…then your pati parmeshwar will go angry. But I have a point here to make in favor of pati parmeshwar Ji. In the movie the husband, Rishabh (Vikrant Massey), is characterized as a very calm, innocent, simple guy and his anger is justified (movie dekh Lena)

6. If you face a problem in your married life and wish to go to your parent’s home, parents would say, “ye sab toh hota rehta hai Shaadi mein” and they would excuse you so that you would agree and not visit them.

7. Domestic violence is NORMAL if you have committed a mistake in the marriage. You should understand this and go through all…as Rani (Tapsee Pannu) said in the movie to the police, “Amar prem wohi hai jispe khoon ke halke halke se cheente ho, taaki usse buri nazar na lage”

Haye bhagwan utha le!

Dressing sense reflects character of a woman?

Incidentally, the movie shows the dressing sense of Rani from a very conservative lens. In the first half, Rani is seen in sleeveless blouses, Kurtis, seductive enough. And when she falls in line for the mistake she made, her dressing sense turned into ‘sati-savitri-bechari’. Not appreciated! After all, what was the reason for that?! Did it show that dress plays a very important role in judging the character of a woman? Long old debate, no?

The above 7 points are the reasons that critics gave the movie a very hard time. 1.5 star, 3 stars only.

Who is the Elephant In The Room?

Now time to address the elephant in the room. Yes, a writer has a choice and every right to write something just for commercial purposes. But sweeping heights on the ground of stereotypes is like letting your ethics go with the wind. Glorifying domestic violence, cheating in marriage, etc, for sake of narrating a dark & delectably crazy love story is not a good choice. Bruhh! You cannot every time say ‘Dil toh baccha hai ji’ and go on writing just whatever!

Above all, ironically despite all the above negative points listed, the main actors – Taapsee Pannu & Vikrant Massey out-shined with marvelous acting skills. And talking about Harshvardhan Rane, then Thank God he did get some dialogues too! If you haven’t watched it yet…you can give it a try.

Abhi ke liye bs itna hi…dhanyavad.
