‘Ganpati Bappa …’ I’m sure you’ve completed it with the most possible enthusiasm! So finally we had to again say Goodbye to our beloved Bappa.
Starting from the Pranapratishhtha ritual (invoking life in the idol) to the Shhodashopachara ritual (Chanting of religious text) to Uttarpuja to finally Ganpati Visarjan (immersing idols to the local river) The great 10-day Hindu festival of Ganesh Chaturthi has become an acquaintance of India with having its origin in the state Maharastra where the great Maratha leader Maharaja Chatrapati Shivaji started public Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in Maharashtra to promote the spirit of nationalism. Later during the time of India’s freedom struggle, freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak changed Ganesh Chaturthi from a homely private celebration to a great public celebration where people from all classes, castes, and ages can come together and be united especially when the British didn’t want it to be happened.
Lord Ganesha has many other meaningful names like Vighnaharta, Vinayak, Gajanand, etc is believed to be the first son of lord Shiva and Parvati, especially worshipped for wisdom, prosperity, and removing obstacles in starting any good work.
With the same faith, love, devotion, and big beautiful pandals the Ganpati celebration has taken changed in many ways. ‘Over the years with growing environmental awareness, people have started celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi in an environmentally friendly way. This includes– getting Ganesha idols made of natural clay/ mitti and using only flowers and natural items for decorating the pandals.’
