Sometimes, there comes along a poem, a song, a painting or a film, that is simply an assertion of the Self. Without frills or fancies- just a declaration of the individuality of the person. The voice in this lovely poem is of Uncommon writer Pratibha Dhakar, who says it very simply through symbols in the colours blue and purple.
Shades of Love
Blue is your favourite colour;
People like me are purple.
Purple is no different though.
It’s not blue either.
Ocean is blue
Endless
Blue the sky
Ceaseless.
Purple is me
I’m purple
Which is not your favourite colour
Blue is heaven
Your eyes blue
Wondering if purple would change
I have no clue.
When it’s black outside
I turn out to be blue
As the sun appears
I again look like purple.
You love blue
I’m much like purple.
How to be your favourite?
There is no such system.
It’s been past midnight
Still glittering city lights
Soon the morning would come
I remain only purple
Only purple
Only purple.
Some statements need no loud voices- they are powerful enough in their words. This poem is one such statement.
