Love Letters on Mothers’ Day, Direct Dil Se 5.0

The week has raced by and we are on the brink of the weekend already- and a very special weekend- because 14th May or Mothers’ Day is already just 2 days away.

Team The Uncommon Box has had the most touching experience going through these letters which are more than letters- they are little pieces of the heart of the writers who have shared them with us in this special commemorative series.

So here are four more such gems from our treasure trove:

Annu Tomar takes up writing a letter to her mother instead of doing it the common way this year.

Annu Tomar

Dear Mom,

I know it won’t justify but today I thought of writing you a letter to let you know how much you mean to me.

Initially I thought of buying you a gift but couldn’t figure out what it could be- a card, a watch, or a dress which can compliment you, your beauty and our relation.

“So I said to myself, “Annu let’s put some effort and do something ourself”.”

I thought of cooking for you but alas, I am sitting here 200km away just thinking of you.

So here I am writing a letter, something I have not done for a long time. Putting all my feelings and gratitude for you in words is like sitting under a night sky and counting the stars, but I will give a try.

You know whatever I am today, it all comes from you Maa, from my appearance to my mental strength- from smiling in tough situations to crying watching sentimental movies. You taught me everything from combing my hair to standing up for myself. You have been a constant support.

“You always reminded me how important it is to love oneself. I do love myself, simply because you love me.”

You always listen to me no matter how busy you were or how much mess was there inside you. You always respected my opinions, you allow me to make mistake only so that I can learn lessons from them. I know watching me in those difficult times made you cry but you did because you wanted me to be independent and brave. And every time life pushed me back, you were standing there to hold me up, giving me your shoulder and encouraging me to do my best.

Remember Grade 3 and that fight I had with my best friend? You always listened to me then, even though, looking back I realize my objections were so frivolous.

You are so self-less, it amazes me. You always thought about family whether it’s about Dad, bhai or me. You have sacrificed a lot for your children. You never demanded anything. You just keep loving us without any expectations. I know I have let you down many a times and I feel like hell while thinking of those things. I can’t change that but I will surely make you proud someday. All your efforts won’t go in waste. It’s time to give you all the happiness of world.

I can’t express in words what you gave to me without even knowing it. You are doing an amazing job being my mother and I don’t think I tell you enough.

Not only today but I want to tell you thisevery day.

I can’t even imagine my life without you.We are growing older together and I wouldn’t have it another way.

So Happy Mothers’ Day to the most beautiful lady.

Mom, I love you with every cell of my body.

Thankyou for making me what I am.

Love you every day of the year,

Your daughter,

Annu.

Hi Maa,

This is a token of my love…

I turned 25 this year.

To me, the world remains unclear.

A child embodied, in the skeleton of an adult.

I have not been good Maa,

But you never left my side.

You understand me so well Maa,

In my silence too; you confide.

In my joys, you gleefully rejoice!

All my sorrows, you greatly despise.

In the lessons that I have to learn;

You give me hope,

That one day things will for the better turn!

I am overjoyed in the cradle of your arms,

I am gifted with God’s greatest of charms.

I am merely an extension of your soul,

Apart from you, I can never be whole.

Every moment in your embrace is so pure,

There isn’t an agony, you cannot cure!

I dream every day, that I could be more like you Maa,

I hope one day I make it that far.

I owe you a million apologies,

I had totally messed up my priorities.

I am truly sorry for all the sleepless nights you’ve had,

I am sorry for making you feel so sad.

I thank you for teaching me my first vowel,

One day I shall make you proud Maa,

You are the reason I speak so well!

Thank you for being so patient Maa,

I know I was a handful child.

For always giving me a chance Maa,

For knowing my fragrance was wild.

I could have never made it this far Maa,

Without inheriting your grace and poise.

Your blessings have given me a reason,

To always believe in my choice.

Thank you for being who you are Maa,

Thank you for always being my guide.

I love you Maa.

Siddhika.

Anamika Makhija believes in keeping it simple and short- the glimpses she offers into her bond with her mother, are things we can identify with, because they are everyday things.

I don’t know how she does that, but she manages to do everything so right. A rare combination of a golden heart and an innocent brain – that’s how she is!

Whenever I don’t feel like eating, she makes me eat with her own hands and I eat more than every other day.

What I think is lost forever, she takes it out from my almirah!

When I remain silent assuming that no one on earth would ever understand me, she gives me the solution.

When I have been working for 2 hours straight, she will work for 4 more hours to prepare my favourite dish.

When I tell her that I am now 20, she won’t believe me and always count my age a year less.

When I score bad marks, she will be the one to say, “Padhnemeintohachhihai bus padhaimeindhyaannahideti.”

When I score good marks, her reaction makes me bewildered – because she celebrates every little achievement of mine.

When I sleep till 12 noon, she still makes sure that no one disturbs me while sleeping.

When I fall sick, bottles are put out of the fridge and everyone has to eat khichdi.

She will always say, “Sarpechadha k rakhahaitumhe,” and will continue to do that forever.

“Beta jab mai tumhare jitni thi toh poora khana bana leti thi. Tum kuchh toh seekh jao,” and when I enter in the kitchen – “Andar jaao garmi mein kyu baithi ho?”

Only she can do this. She is more than a superhuman, she is my Mother.

I Love You, Maa!

Happy Mothers’ Day!

Anamika

Apurva Kamat pens a short note to her mother-but this little note carries a lifetime’s worth of feelings. Read and know them as no different from the feelings in yours.

Staying away from clichéd messages, I want to say sorry to you Maa, because of me, there have been times when you have cried, you have faced the brunt of people’s questioning looks and questions.

“You have protected me from people, like the lioness who protects her cubs.”

You have been the strongest pillar on whom my world has rested. I am sorry for those times when I have made you feel insignificant, I have taken you for granted. Sometimes I get scared thinking will that happen to me, will I be taken for granted, what will I do then and how will I react ? Will I be just as patient and calm as my mother?

I pray that I do not need to say sorry to my mother ever again and that I can just love her, give her the happiness that she deserves.

Maa, I wish to be like you.

Love,

Apurva.
